Cork Reportage Wedding Photography and just hanging with the couple, and when all is said ad done this is as simple as it and as effortless as it needs to be.
I am in the lucky position to have not just nailed down a way of working, but have clients that get it without the need or expectation to deviate from how I work. And if I get a request that requests something that I don’t offer then it’s a red flag for me. It’s something I am uncomfortable with. Sure, some photographers will do whatever, but not me. As I have mentioned before, this consistency is absolutely vital to me and the client.
Often on a journey to a wedding up the country, I find myself seeing large advertising hoarding advertising wedding venues. What always strikes me is the lack of imagination with this. It’s the usual bog standard image of a couple. Soft light, golden light, foreheads touching, all the usual tropes. And this is as deep as it gets. And this also seems par for the course with a host of wedding photographers. I never get any emotion from this style of image whatsoever. I don’t do it, never have, and certainly won’t start. But I will strive to get something that will be absolutely unique to the client.
As I have said over and over like a mantra. No two weddings are alike. And if they are then in my view this is a cop out. Often the most difficult thing is to articulate each wedding on its own merit. But you have to lock in with a laser like focus to produce something that genuinely reflects the wedding day. And as the day moves then you have to be there on a constant.
What is really special is getting a couple who are absolutely relaxed. To forget I am there. To allow me to find the image that sums them up. That they can look back and say “that’s us!” Not a cookie cutter wedding picture, but an image that truly reflects who they are. For me, it is my bread and butter. This angle is one I crave. You can never set an image up but certainly anticipate one. Setting it up is for the birds. I’d rather find something off the cuff and vibrant, a one off
