AI wedding photography. Will it be a thing? I can only assume that it will. Have I any interest or notion to use this tool for my own wedding photography? Right now, no. And long term? With a bespoke model, I still can’t see where I could consider using AI
When reviewing my work over the course of my time working as a natural wedding photographer, there has been a steady evolution of my work. The style has gathered pace at its own rate. I have often mentioned that jumping on styles and bandwagons is not a thing I ever would consider entertaining. That would feel forced and something that would be influenced by what’s going on. Essentially becoming another clone. But these clones tend to rely on filters and certain tones to present their work, while the actual content is secondary. What fills the frame ultimately must be number one priority. And over time consistency puts a stamp on a photographic identity that no current cool filter could.
A natural evolution is exactly where the work of a documentary wedding photographer should go. For me, and other credible reportage wedding photographers, there is no other way. And I’m talking about proper reportage. More often than not, I find myself looking at a set of images and looking at certain aspects of a frame and pulling ideas to move forward with a certain type of image. Looking at what I’d consider a flaw or a distraction in the image. Of course this can be overkill. though it allows me to keep pushing forward with a style of work that I have dedicated myself to. To seek out an image that brings a certain level of satisfaction. And this happens right in the moment the image is captured.
If it’s easier to prompt AI to do this then it will absolutely be used. Does it remove any aspect of identity and individuality? As far as I’m concerned it will. The basic idea of AI wedding photography removes any and all identity from a set of pictures
When putting together a blog post I quite often will mull over a few ideas when out for a run. I’ll trash around a few ideas and see what sticks. Once I sit down in front of a computer I’ll pluck one of these ideas and go from there. Anybody who has read my blog articles will get a grasp on the overall concept of what I want to achieve with my wedding photography. The posts tend to be a stream of consciousness based on a loose concept. Outsourcing this to AI removes that.
For me it is vital to offer a style of work that is genuinely unique, bespoke. My clients demand it
